No manual, how do I figure out what year my motor is

Need a little help. I want to know what year my 200 blackmax is. Can I go by the serial number, or what is an easy way to figure this out. I am in need of parts and need to know what to look for. I need to figure out what my drive shaft length is also. Is that from under the cowl to the lower unit?

On the left(port) side of the motor just behind the parting line for the block and front half and towards the bottom of the number 2(top) cylinder there should be a date stamped in the block. You can also go by the serial number.
