Just heat up the aluminium housing and flip it over, it will fall out and while it is still hot. Put the new one in. I like to have the new one sitting on the bench. When I flip it over and the race falls out I simply set the housing on top of the new one and let it cool. Don't use water to cool or it ma distort. Just give it time to cool on it's own. Just my .02

You can heat the end cap to about 400* in your oven, IF your wife really loves you.

I use the same trick on revese gears on the lowers. Heat the housing up with the torch and lift the carrier. Then I set the carrier on the new bearing and heat it and it falls right on. Saves from damaging the bearing during install. Just my .02.

I use a large toaster oven for even heat and keeps my wife off my arse...

I tried the oven thing about 5 times over the course of a day, never worked... Tried the torch trick, never worked and had to resort to old hammer and drift.... The heat did work great for putting the new bearing in though...

also when installing the new race, try putting the new race in the freezer for a couple hours before installing.

I have tried that trick and what i have found it when you get the housing hot the VERY cold metal will drop the temp down and cause to shrink and cause it grab the bearing or sleeve. I have alot better luck installing bearings and cylinder sleeves at room temp. Seems to give me more work time to aling the ports. That trick does works if the item is left at at room temp. But that is just my experiences.......
