I have this motor on my custom built 2080 aluminum bowfishing boat and have run it for several years on this boat and my previous 1870 one, did fairly well, but with the new larger boat always felt a need for a little more power, so considered someday going up in horsepower or rebuilding. Well just dropped a rod and busted the case on the lower R cylinder so now I have to make a choice. Do I rebuild for more power, drop on another block, or just part it out and buy another? Just replaced the starter, ECU, rebuilt lower unit, etc. so I have some tied up in it and know the 2.5 blocks are great platforms for more performance, but just not sure what would be my best option for performance, reliability and cost effectiveness. Ya'll are the experts so help me out here. Thanks, Mark

I am assuming this is a production EFI and not a centerhorn 260. Hard to say on the Mariners as the names are very similar. If you have the production model the EFI system is common to give trouble and a carb engine seems to be good at making horsepower andn being reliable as well. You can get good horsepower and we offer a lot for that engine. You can get better HP from a centerhorn model and it's EFI system seems to work much more reliably. We recently built a carb engine which made 252.7 at the crank on our dyno without a lot of modifications that would cost you rliability. We have one of these engines in stock now in a 20 inch model for $4995.00 ready to run. See it under outboards for sale.
