its out thats just what didnt come with it

What exactly holds a transom fixed like that in place? I mean, no glass at all on the back, or was there an interior skin and they'd just "dropped" the transom in through the top? Surely foam isn't strong enough to hold anything - was it purely the outer skin bolted through the transom and engine mounting?
In which case, I'm going to do mine like that - sounds dead quick and easy.:D

Or maybe I'm thinking wrong - when you say it was 2 1/2 layers, do you mean the original transom, plus another one thrown on top, and another half thickness thrown on top of that? Either way, looks like a slightly ropey job - hope I find something like that when I tear mine apart.

no they laminated 2 layers of 1/2 plywood in there but never glassed the back side of the outside two corners cause the corners are not flush so they filled it with foam before the cap went on they could have just glassed it then foamed it (lazy short cut) to make it look good on the outside
anyways thats what lead to its demize and rotted but i also found they plugged a few holes later on in its life time with dowel rods and they leaked and help get the rot going being on the repair end i always get to see why and what went wrong
i have seen far worse over the years

I'm not even going to check my transom now, may as well rip it out and replace... too many bodgers around.

Hmm. My transom seems sound, but as it is just finished with CSM maybe I should knock that off and replace it anyway. I have plenty of blunt chainsaw chains to mince up any nasty wood! The more I read here, the more paranoid I get...

We got Pictures.............I cant wait to see more ... I dont think the boat Was ever rebuilt ? But Anything Can Happen .. Looks Great ... Do you want to do a 20 Talon ?

sure why not but i want a give it a trial run when its done
email some pictures of it
I wish I was better at posting photos. I just picked up a boat that had the floor fomed in and then bondo was used to glass over the foam. It looks like he also fomed in the transom. I have not gotten to that yet. It amazes me all the back yard mechanics that should stick to their day jobs; then again they probable suck at that job also.

heres some moreJust curious are you going to roll over the edges ( sand ) before you do your layup on the stringers so the glass will layup on a nice rounded edge or has that already been done because the edges on top of the stringers look pretty sharp .
no flat glassing the deck in place good ?

afr.... sorry i get a lil backwards at times. i have a 90 virge that needs glass work. and trying to get an idea in what its going to cost me
each one is a little differant depending on mutipal factors
but if i had to average it out i would say around 40 to 55 hours materials run just a bit more then wood this build took three sheets from the core and stringers up the transom takes one sheet of 3/4 or in this case a half a sheet of 1 1/2 coosa
its a lot a work and you got to really bust your to stay under 55 hours
blisters on one side not good im going to bust um open and glass um up
we are going to have to keep a eye on this one side see if anything else come up

what oz matt did you put on the sole topside?
one 24 oz woven roven {aka fatt matt } and one 2.0 oz chopped stran matt /14 lb density core

moving along now after i repaired a few blisters could be one shows up later on down the road that just didnt come up yet you will just have to keep a eye on the bottom for anything that might let water get back into it and delaminate it
