This is a follow-up to an earlier post.

The carb was spewing fuel from the "choke/primer" orifice. The bulb would not become "hard". The choke/primer solenoid spec'ed out.

My favorite mechanic almost got some new biz...

Howemsoever, the problem was caused by a previous "repair".

Earlier this summer, I spent a week replacing hoses, changing out fluids, tuning and such like in preparation for fall hunting and fishing. The motor purred. The boat had new grass and camo. I was ready.

Almost.

The manual tilt pin was frozen. I heated the sucker up and pounded on it with a three pound rubber maul; lots of WD40. I did not free the pin. I rigged up a temporary mechanism to tilt the motor, figuring to press the pin out this winter.

Three weeks later I was ready to launch. Now the motor would not start!

Turns out my efforts to free the tilt pin jolted things around enough to knock the idle screw out of adjustment. Instead of being set for a preliminary 1 1/8 turn back from closed, the thing had backed out to 2 1/2 turns from full stop!

No wonder there were flooding issues!

The only reason I caught it at all, is because in utter frustration I re-built the carb from scratch; again. Naturally I put in a new idle screw. And discovered the gross mis-adjustment of the previous install.

Because the motor ran perfectly after I had re-built the carb earlier, I did not think to check the initial adjustment.

Cause and effect...
