Does anyone know if you can replace the magnets in the flywheel? The magnet assembly is held on with 6 drive screws and have access to pound them out.
I bought the motor used out of Texas and have had some problems with week spark and sparatic idle. I pulled the flywheel to check the stator and the magnets in the flywheel look worn, broken, rusted out almost disgusting looking. Not sure if it's from salt water or what. What would cause this? Has anyone seen this before?
Oh ya, the motor is a '94 175 Loop.
Thanks

the magnets on the flywheel are for the charging system, the part of the flywheel that works the Ig. system is on the hub of the flywheel

the magnets in the flywheel power the alternator coils to charge the battery and the ignition charge coils that supply ignition power to the power pack, but the optical eye is probably the culprit.Buy it try it,if you dont need it now, keep it in the glove box, you'll need it down the road.

all the magnets in my 225 looper broke loose and shifted to one (and it still ran....like crap, but it did run). I found Sea Way to be the cheapest to replace them. they had them in stock and arrived the very next day (UPS ground)
