I ran a 28p ET (copy) for the first time this weekend on my Vegas XT. I’ve never ran an ET style prop before, so I’m not really sure how they are supposed to act. Are they supposed to be a stern lifting prop life a cleaver, or more of a bow lifting prop like a chopper? The water was a little rough and I had an extra person and gear in the boat so I didn’t really get to “air” the boat out at all…only got running around 70mph or so. The prop slipped a bunch coming out of the hole. The only way I could get the boat to plane off was to mash the gas to the floor, and let the motor spool up to 5500rpms for a few seconds, then the prop would vibrate just for a second as it caught, then it would take off. I’m assuming that’s what they are supposed to do? Even while just idling the boat around…I could tell that if I gave it any gas at all, I could feel it start to suck air and slip a little. Once the boat was up on plane it seemed to still slip a little until I got up and running pretty fast (over 60). It seemed to have decent bowlift, and was much smoother than my SRX that I run. I’m running 1” under the pad.

Can someone give me some info on “ET style” props? Anyone run them on a heavier hull like a Vegas XT? Would the prop benefit from having a little cup added to the blade tips? Hopefully I can get out this week and run it fast, and see how it does….without an extra person and extra gear in the boat.

Thanks!

i havve some of these same questions as i have a vegas with a 2.0 and its running the liow 60s with 2 and a 24 chopper at like 5900. and i would like to plane better as its not to good getting up, but i dont want to lose top speed by going to a 22 chop. i thought maybe going top a et cut would get me to plane quicker, but it might just not have enogh power to spin it fast enough with 135hp. Zthen id be screwed

Have you tried a 4-blade Trophy?

I run a worked[by Performance Propellers] 28ET on my Stoker and love it.It was on the limiter at 6200 and now is turning 5810 and flying!I'm sure Billy added some pitch, don't know how much, but know it's doing what it's supposed to do!

Is there any way you could post up a few pics of the prop, and the blades just so I can take a look and compare to mine. I'm wondering if I need to have some more cup added to the trailing edges.

Some close up pics would be great!! Thanks

No imq707s, but guess what. I have one. I haven't tried it cause i bought it when i had a 200. I am going out this sat and i'll try it it is a 24 and doubt i'll be able to plane it. and its the older style with small holes.

I run a 25 Trophy Plus, and I love it. Best all around "lake" prop I have ever found. I can run high 70's with it with just me in the boat, then load up 4 people, a cooler, and head out wakeboarding...all with the same prop.

Hard to beat

Stokernick....got any pics of that ET you have that you could email me? I'm interested in how much cup it's got in the trailing edges of the blades, and if it going out into the blade tips, or stops short.

Thanks

The boat in my avatar is running an ET in that picture. I have also ran Trophy and Trophy Plus.

The ET has bow lift but not huge bow lift. Trophy lifts the boat more overall than ET. The takeoff you describe sounds similar to my experinece with ET - there is a lot of slip initially, the motor spools up to high RPM and the boat will plane off. From there ET hooks up like nothing else and push very hard through mid range to top speed. Once hooked up ET is awesome. Top speed will be considerably better with ET than Trophy.

Main problem with ET is they are fragile.

My 27 ET sounds similar to what is mentioned above. On my Valero, it doesn't lift the bow near as much as a chopper, and isn't very usable with more than one person in the boat. My engine height could have something to do with that also.

Supposed to split the difference between the chopper and cleavor. PM Frank Mole, he runs one on a Vegas. I guess his boat runs ok. (Over 100:D)

You must be running some different gearing than my old looper. I turned that 28p Hill ET up to 6500, and I was running right at 81mph on GPS.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think those are "fat shaft" lower units. All you would have to do is change out the hub, and then the prop would work.
