Fuel tank at the back.
8-10" setback
prop as high as water pressure allows once you're going fast

I had a lot less HP, but my Virage liked setback and once over 60 mph, ran better with the motor high.

you should consider getting rid of the cle. I had nothing but handling problems when i had a cle on mine. the sportmaster ran fastest set as high as minumum water pressure would allow. 8" setback or more if you dont have the stage 3 bottom. try to get the battery and all the heavy stuff far to the passenger side as possible. balance is key

the cle might actually work well w/ the addition of a nosecone- i just put a bob's on one, only got to run it once but i found it had much more bowlift then the sportmaster, setback also is the key(12"), and a hyd jackplate is mandatory, as far as props, the et seems to work best all around, the cleaver on my boat gives an extra 2 mph but speeds everywhere else but wot are bad(boat drags thru the water) i also had a stg one, the stg3 is 2-3 mph faster w/ the same setup, but prop selection is different, the stg 1 liked choppers, the best wheel i found for the stg 1 was the mazco re3, if you try to run those props on a stg 3 around 95 it causes the boat to do something similar to chine walking, and the setback numbers are the same between the stg 1 and 3, and also everything helmet said as well

So I'll try that 1st... and forgot to mention it is a stage 3 hull '91. so I should be 12" set-back total including the hydro-jack plate?? cause I think I have just about that now. I'm thinking 28 or 30 pitch on the prop.. does that make since??
Thanx for the help !!!

correct on the setback, litening et yes, i use a 30 p but am getting ready to try a 28, the boats accelerate slow because of the weight of the boat, the 28 probably will work well, i do alot of running at hi speeds for extended periods, so i will still use a 30 for stuff like that

This Merc has been tinkered with "Land and Sea" is all over it. Sadly it will be spring before we find out how this total package works.
