Brian Harden

After way too long of working on my XR2001, I finally have it finished. It took a long time and ALOT of work but I think the finished product is worth it. Finished it Friday night @ 11:00pm and put it in the water for the first time at the GA/SC rally on Sat morning and everything worked perfect. Here are some pics

Wait...you're actually going to DRIVE that thing? I'd frame it or put it in a museum. That's absolutely gorgeous. Tell us more about it...what year is it? What's the boat's background? I'm assuming that's paint...any chance we can get more info.
Great great great results.

I do have one question...why go with the two kill switches when you can just use a single 3 pole killswitch that'll kill both the ignition and the fuel pump?

Looking mighty good. Like Sam said, we would love some stats on the gem.

The boat is a 1992 model River Racer. I bought the boat knowing it was going to be a project. It had some damage to the deck that was poorly repaired and painted over. I ran the boat before I did anything to make sure it was worthy. It ran great despite its looks so I stripped it down to bare deck and hull and started sanding. My family owns a boat dealership so I had very little time to work on it(some of you will understand). I decided to let Jack Barsh at Full Throttle make the repairs to the deck and paint it for me. He did an outstanding job and saved me alot of time. I have spent the last two years planning out the rigging and putting it back together with all new stuff. Since it was a River Racer I decided to make it a lake terror instead of an all out drag boat. I probably have 20lbs of tie wraps in it:D I also completely re-worked the trailer with all new hubs, bearings, rims, lights, etc. and added the walkboards. Then painted it the same paint that is on the boat. I don't even want to know how many hours I have in it, but I bet if you ask my wife she can tell you:p
Here is a picture of its humble beginning

Sam, I went with two kill switches because I don't run a keyswitch - just a main power and starter button. I wanted a way to have everything powered up but kill the fuel pump or use the fuel pump without everything else powered up to empty the fuel cell.

Brian,
I agree with Sam, you should give it to Greg to store inside his [garage] Museum along with his Hydrostream.
I saw the wrecked Hull over at Jack's and can not believe that you and he could have the patience to make it look like that.
Let me know when you want to start on my Grandsport....

Looks great Brian. It is amazing how much time it takes just to rig a new one much less restoring and rigging. I would imagine you have 10-12 hrs. in that thing. LOL. I ment to say weeks!!! There's no way you're finished, there's alway's something that needs to be done. :D If it's finished, better sell it to Scott so you can get started on another project.:)

Tom,
I personally never ran a filter on the suction side of the fuel pump. The pumps are made to push not pull fuel. I did run the metal Mercury filter on the out going side. If you ever listened to a pump with a filter on the suction side it cavitates constantly. The trick to the Bosh pumps is to mount them vertical not horizontal and they will last. I also used a funnel with a strainer/filter to fill the fuel tank.

Nice Brian, Very Nice!! Having purchased my GSE from you Ive seen the labor of love you and your family have for Allison's and all boats at your dealership. Its nice to see a boat that is the result of that kind of Passion you all posses. She sure is beautiful. Ill bet shes real fast to.

Thanks everyone for all the compliments:) I enjoy the building/restoring/rigging as much as I do running the boat. I hope this doesn't mean I am getting old:p
The fuel system is set up just as Lee descibed. This is how I have always done it and never had a problem.
The engine is a 1997 260 with less than 100 hours that has never been apart.

Good info , not trying to detract from the excellence of this ride !! I have two boats setup with filter before and after pump , never had a pump problem in over 300 collective hours , just curious is all . Very trick boat , I would love to drive one someday as well !!:thumbsup::cheers:

What is the finish that you have on the floors/interior? Is it vinyl sheet glued down? What make/model?
Need to decide how to finish the floors on the Vandal, don't want carpet but something with grip would be nice.

That is vinyl flooring like is on the floor of PolarKraft and many other aluminum fishing boats. I sell PolarKraft and had some laying around and thought it would look good. It looks great and is very easy to clean. I glued it on with 3M contact glue. Alot of new boats are now being sold with this instead of carpet:thumbsup:
