I just took my vector for its first ride out, the boat has a promax with brand new sea star steering cle lower with bobs cone and I am running a 26 chopper the lower is about 2inches below the pad. Whats happening with the boat is that under throttle I can feel that when I try to turn the wheel it turn hard, when I am off the throttle its fine. The other thing that is happening is the boat is pushing down hard left and will all of a sudden when trying to make a run with it out of no where the boat will dive to the front left and want to come to a stop. Any feedback would help.

same with my boat..im trying to trim out and it diggs the bow to the lef like it wants to nose dive ...gets kinda scary sometimes. and my stearing is super hard when full throttle unless i get some air and i could turn easy ...

Tame that torque! Bob's TORQUE TAMER will straighten out the high-speed steering pull that today's high-pitched propellors produce when running at high transom settings.

The paddle-wheel flow produced by the submerged part of such a propeller when much of the top half is out of the water swings your motor sideways (to starboard for right-hand drives) harder the faster you go.
</td> <td align="left" valign="top" width="49%" height="301"> If stock steering tabs have been reset in an attempt to compensate at high speeds - which they can't do - they will tend to swing the motor oppositely at lower speeds.

Bob's TORQUE TAMER redirects high-speed flow so you don't have to fight it to steer where you want to go, and the stock tabs are readily trimmed at your lowest transom setting to keep you straight as intended at low speeds. Install it easily at only a modest cost. You'll enjoy balanced steering without any speed loss, and you'll save your arms and temper in the bargain!

Sounds strange to me. Could be the boat set up. What type of hoses are you using on the steering? Is the correct oil being used? It could also be lock valves not working correctly.

I'm also running into a similar situation with my HST. Mine is happenign whenever I dump the throttle and come off the pad while going straight - the boat wants to hook left HARD!!! Almost tossed me once or twice already and scared the crap out of me when I wasn't ready for it.

I installed the SeaStar steering system last fall (Pro 2.0 Tilthelm w/ 5345 cylinder), and it's probably only got maybe 10-15 hours on it at this point. I thought at first that it was just inherent to my hull from the prop torque, but am starting to think its not, especially after reading this. I noticed that I had some side to side slop (about 3/8" in both directions if you yank back & forth on the motor) so I bled the system again per the SeaStar directions. I found some air in one side and ran a half quart of fresh fluid through the system to make sure I got it all, but I've still got almost the same amount of play. Also noticed that the fluid that I bled out had a blackish tinge to it.

I'm running a 260 with a CLE that's got a Bob's cone and the factory built in torque tab.

Any suggestions?

I've had mine since 2002- factory install on new boat. When first run with best trim setting the boat pulled right. Skeg tab was added and tab length adjusted until steering was neutral at top end with best trim. I have the stock Sea Star and when properly bled- which took 3-4 tries- there is less than 1/16 inch motion at the cylinder rod when motor is pushed back and forth. I assume that you've set the adjusting nut to remove all system slack- if this hasn't been done than do it immediately- and push the cav plate back and forth by hand while doing this to take out all slack. After 7 years the fluid is still clear and clean in the lines.

Everything was done correctly I have rigged a bunch of boats with the steering and never had anything like that feedback. One thing I did notice is that the skeg looks like its cured its tough to explain is that normal on a cle?

What type of disease did the skeg have? Is it endemic to the water in your area or do the rest of us need to have ours inoculated ?
