connecting rods

Can someone tell me what connecting rods are correct for a 2.5 L EFI. A friend of mine smoked two powerheads one a 1981 225 and the other a late 90's 2.5 EFI. When we took the 2.5 apart we were surprized to see that it had the same rods as the 225. Are these correct? According to the parts catalog they are not. Is this a performance thing we don't know about? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

im not 100% sure about it ,but i had a 82 225 merc and it had big rods , i think they are the same as the 2.5 s.
