Well I started taking the lip off my Super Sport last Tuesday. The boat now runs and handles great! Drives better with even less lip. Stock was about .090” I took about 0.025” off each time until I ended up with about .020” all the way across the pad. I am going back to take it all off, square the edges, and try it again this weekend. It hurt the top end at first, but I raised the motor up and got the mph back and then some. This is the fastest this boat has ever gone with this motor, right at 94mph. Now it is as high as it will go on the jack though! It does cruise a LOT better. Before at 50 to 60 it would bury the nose and it wouldn’t respond to trim hardly at all. Now it will lift the nose and fly the bow a lot better. I could trim it up and it would pick up speed, then I could let off the gas to keep it constant. That makes for better mileage! Plus I dropped the go pedal several times from 60 to 70 and it wiggled a bit, but didn’t hook. If I had done that before it would do an about face before quick could get ready.
Don’t take my findings to for the gospel, and I know the Allison purists will say I ruined the boat. Well all I have to say to that is that is, it IS my boat and I can do what I want with it!

they do one thing extreamly well, goin in a straight line at an exreamly high rate of speed on flat water, as for leaving the surface and re entering they have a tendency to be kinda un forgiving. just an observation. fun out  (could be wrong, it happened once before)

You got it. I was going to take it out last Saturday, but after the X trying to have me arrested for keeping my son against his will and taking his cell away, I decided that we'd go dirt bike riding instead. The river I boat on is in the same city she lives in. Don't want to get too close to her when she is on the war path. Wouldn't put it past her for her to hit herself, meet me at the ramp, and call the law.
Fun ****ing fun.

Cool stuff,
I always enjoy reading when someone tries something out of the box and then posting their findings either good or bad .....In this case I'm glad to see you found good results.
Man you X sounds like a real @#%$& well you get my meaning. Sorry to hear that, that just makes every thing with your Son harder. Keep us posted on how it feels after you remove it all............

Seems to me that every thread I have ever read about someone sanding the lip down on the pad of there Allison. Good resuts is always posted. I have yet to hear anyone wish they wouldnt have sanded there lip down. Makes you wonder.

I took my lip right down to the gel in the center then put a layer on just to keep it white. I sanded the sides of the lip down to the dark gel and put a little less to cover the dark gel colour. My Hull handles wonderfully and is just as fast and quick as when i bought her. I used to have to be very ginger coming off speed above 85-90. Now i can turn off the key at 88 anyway haven't done that at 90.:D When i check plugs thats what i do.I would never have done that when I had the full lip there. I do notice an increase in fuel consumption with out the lip though. Just a little. I never flow tested it but that would be an interesting comparison. I think A before and after fuel consumption comparison would say the lip helps with fuel consumption?. The lip makes the hull ride lighter and more efficient as it is intended to do. I don't find the hull attitude really much different in flight still runs flat. But the handling at speed is greatly increased like you mentioned also.

On mine, such was not the case. No way in hell you could lift the bow with the trim at 50 to 60. Almost the whole keel was wetted out and dragging. Now I can trim up and watch the bow go up. As I do, it takes less throttle to sustain speed. At high speeds I see no difference beside a slight speed increase.

No haven't taken it all off yet. I was going to re-measure it with out water dripping all over me. ;) and run it one more time.
And YES it is a lot more forgiving IMO. It lived up to its name being a "hooker" boat before for sure! I haven't tried a full drop of the go pedal at top speed though. I do remember with the full lip, you would have to be very careful of crossing other boat wakes at speed. I always slowed down a bit and than accelerated over the waves. If you didn't it would hook or make you think it was going to.

I've hooked mine once and I assure you it was totally MY FALT! You can chop the throttle on mine at 100+ and it just drops the nose and stays straight as a string! It doesn't seem to be neer as weight sencitive as my buddies boat either. Just curious as what you found. I know you wern't as happy with it as you were with your XB2002. Keep us informed. Mike.
