There are variables, and of course it depends on the spacing, or the distance in the center void of the jackplate. If it's a solid rear plate jackplate, then all you have to do is bolt it on and add thickness to the inside of the plate with anything from a piece of pressure treated 2 X 4 to a piece of rectangular tubing. If it's the more common type made from 4 pieces of alum. angle bolted together, you'll have to be sure that they're either close enough that the bottom of the transom brackets of the engine has a firm base OR add a piece of alum plate of 1/2" thickness to it to form a base. You'll still need to add some type of shimming to the front for spacing for the clamp bolts.

Yup, did basically what Raceman is talking about 5 years ago or so. I had a T-H Marine jackplate (4 pieces of angle aluminum). The motor was an older 140, pre-BIA bolt pattern. We cut a piece of 1/2 6061 aluminum to fit the outer dimensions of the jackplate, drilled holes through the aluminum plate and the jack plate to secure the plates. We measured the bottom bolt hole spacing on the motor and found the center line of the back of the now closed in jackplate then laid out and drilled the bottom holes.

The top was a challenge. We were going to use blocks of wood notched out to fit against the jackplate to give the transom clamps something to bite on. A machinist friend of mine happened to be there at the time and took some measurements back with him to his shop and made me a pair of aluminum blocks that worked perfect.

I've been digging around trying to find pics of the setup, but all I can find were either taken before the jackplate fix, or long after when the inline was removed for a V6. I'll keep looking

I ended up giving the back plate to Jim Hunt for a project of his and I think the upper blocks went with the motor when I sold it.

Even better to see you're still around Jim. Yeah, the blocks went to the guy I sold my 140 to. They were gone before I gave you the plate. I'll bet that boat is big fun with the XS.
