That is the most ignorantly loud internal combustion engine I have ever heard.

I love it.

It actually sounds like 6, unmuffled k&b 7.5cc outboards running in unison. :D

Cool stuff....!!!

You can hear the low end bog when he hits the throttle...once it get past that it really jumps up in RPM's. Wonder what rpms he is turning on the top end ?? Does any know if it's water injected ??

Mark75H

Not water injected. I would estimate its turning about 6

I wish I had video of my old twin stacker Kitson runnin' (which Sherlock has now). I honestly believe it was LOUDER than a top fuel car. That sucker would wake the dead, with or without the water injection.

Very cool.
When I was 16 I had that same 14' hull in blue with a 75hp Chrysler and my cousin had the 16' version with a 105 Chrysler up on Lake Wawasee in N Indiana. They both ran about 55 stock. Seems to me the 14' model was called "Contender" and the 16 was called "Challenger" and it's tunnel went all the way to the back but the little one was flat at the back like this one. They were bought on Lake Tippicanoe at Tippicanoe Boat Company and I was wondering if Dale was originally from around there. Is he a board member and if so what is his screen name? The Tippy Boat Company had a gold demo just like this one with the Chrysler 135 stacker and a racing lower unit as well as an inboard version in 18ft, big block Chev and a V-drive in it. A guy on Wawasee bought the inboard, he owned the pier buiness on the lake, Sudlow's it was called. The performance boat dealer on Wawasee sold Invader's back then and we used to chew em up. Those old Chrysler's had amazing low end grunt. My 75 was a 3 cyl with 3 carbs and the 105 was a 4 cyl w/ twin 2 barrels. I used to get it 6ft in the air jumping wakes. Young and dumb and dad was payin the bills. Broke the skeg off the bottom twice but that skeg would throw a wall of water far enough to almost sink an Invader when you would turn hard enough. Ah the good ol days.

Here is a motor that turns more than 6

<object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/b2mJ2riB2kA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/b2mJ2riB2kA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>

It has a Merc crankshaft, Merc rods, Merc bearings, Merc reeds, Merc ignition and Merc bolt pattern, but that's about all :D

I know all about that one ... very trick. If anyone wants someone to build them one, Dave has done it and can do it again :)

Of course Dave's museum has the real thing in it, too

you can;t beat the sound of a looper but be sure you are not right behind the exhaust when it starts or you will loose your hearing. the guys holding it wear pro earplugs.
One at tomahawk last year, a 44 cu incher was clocked at over 100 mph turning 9000 rpm on a cabover. he had a deflector this year and it was in the 80 mph range with the same boat.

Mark Benson was looking for some stacker sounds to edit on the race dvds hes doing.
I told him i would put the stacks on and make some runs.
We did about about 15 runs and sent him a dvd.
It is so loud even with ear plugs your ears hurt for a while after.
I cant imagine running behind a triple.

They really kill the bottom end without water injection it wont start pulling till around 3000.
Your rite Sam its running about 6100 not going that fast but sure sounds like it.
In the goofing off video i over trim it and run it up to 7000 it makes a whole other sound.
Thats a 1250 i plan to put them on a 1350 and mount it on the ct15 with the ssm.
Then maybe get the sound and some speed!!!

I know what you mean on the loopers we go to Depue and they usually run a 6 cyl they sounds like music.

Speaking of the ct15 i just found two short videos on youtube of it running the day i flipped it.
Search Dale boating & Dale boating 2

Probibly wont be long till the water cops are waiting on me at the ramp but till then having fun!!!!!!!!!

Will be there for sure!!

I had it there the show before last and it was great.
Got to run with a v6 Molinari.
As you know its always choppy up there and not alot of fun for the v bottoms but the tunnels do ok.

If we get a good opc turnout we will need to ask for more run time.
Last i was there they only gave us very little time.
Seems the inboards run the show.

Anyone going to Kankakee!
They had a great turnout last year but no one ran.
I will thake the stacker and run it if possible.
Dale!

The Clayton event has not been kind to boat racers and outboards in particular. We will be going to Buffalo/Tonanwanda on September 11-12-13 of this year. It is an annual event with a great turnout and much better (calmer) water. I will let you guys know how it turns out but I am told by people that I trust this is much better than Clayton.

I've lived up here on the Niagara River all my life- which unfortunately is now at 61 years. The site fior the Antique and Classic Show is relatively sheltered water compared to Clayton, but is subject to extreme traffic in the afternoons. The river is fairly narrow at the site, and if the 30+ ft SeaRays are out on half plane things can get ugly quick. These people usually sober up about noon and go out for a run. If the wind is low they'll head out to Lake Erie and you'll be fine. If not, the water will be rough from 1 pm on. They used to run unlimiteds at the same site back in the 1950s-1960s but the drivers were very upset by the waves from all the traffic. The river current is about 4 mph and even if they attempt to limit passing boats to no plane they still have to go around 10 mph to make headway and this kicks up big wakes on the 30-40 ft rigs. I was out near the site this past weekend- at 8 am I ran around 55 mph with a nice smooth ride. At noon I was down to 22 mph and trimmed in fully to avoid spinal injuries. The good news is that by mid-September many of the big boats have ended their season here. Also, you are correct in that the show is very well run and has heavy attendance and lots of nice boats- and some unusual ones too...everything from 1920s Rum Runners to the locally built Richardson Cruisers and glass Custom Craft Cats.

Is that a polite way of saying the Clayton crowd hasn't exactly embraced fiberglass outboard boats and so forth ??

At the Buffalo show you also get some of the "wood forever" people, but in general if its old it's OK. A few years back I was drifting past the show area in my 21 Checkmate watching some really nice looking old wood runabouts go by. All of the drivers waved to me and I waved back. Two slowed down and came over to my boat and told me that my C-Mate was just the high tech version of their old rigs- so as far as they were concerned we were all enthusiasts of the same style of boat. As for me, I've owned wood, glass and aluminum- but the sight and sound of a GarWood with a Liberty V-8 engine still excites me....as does a B Utility and 20H with toilet bowl or my current Optimax on a 17 ft aluminum.

It really don't matter which ACBS meet you go to, they only at best tolerate the fiberglass and outboards. Too bad they don't take advantage of what both venues have to offer. The last few years attendence has been down an both ACBS and AOMCI and I'm sure they could use the traffic. I really think the "I can buy whatever I want woodie owner" who don't know which way to turn a wrench to remove a spark plug, just don't have time for the guys who drink beer and have dirt and cuts on their hands. I used to travel the country going to shows coast to coast. I stay home most of the time now. I would like to suck some cold ones down with my old pal Dale though, and that might get me out....

IMHO the Clayton group "tolerates" the race boats every other year as a means to fund their antique boat museum and craft projects. They have wood boat magnificent construction facilities and class rooms and a near world class museum no doubt, but it often seems that if all they ever saw were locally made skiffs, canoes and launches they would be in doggie heaven.
