View Full Version : NC boaters FYI
Looks like law changes in store for May 2010
http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2009/Bills/Senate/PDF/S43v4.pdf
So it looks like you must be 26 or have a boaters saftey cert. Very similar to hunting regulations.

Well....I'm OVER 26, and I have had a boat since I was 10 years old..............I think that makes me EXEMPT !
Looks like we will keep the 9.9 cowling on Johnny’s boat while he's testing.
I wonder if it's going to turn in to one of those things that eventually turns in to a boating license? :(

You better get ready for it as it is a tremendous source of income ..plus will potentially keep some friggin morons from killing someone . I grew up in Freeport and am very familiar with the Island . It's coming to every state only a matter of time ...:icon_bs:

My daughter hated Gloria Estefan when she lobbied for mandatory boat operator training for kids after a PWC operator killed himself playing in her yacht's wake. I realize many will pay no attention, and in Florida you can take the test on line, but if it educated just a few of those idiots out there (be nice if people know to bear to the right when meeting), it might be good for all of us. Guess I'm with Foley on that.
I railed against this at first--I was 6 when I got my first boat, 9 when my Dad gave me a 3 horse for it, and I knew what I was doing. But not everyone had my Dad. I get so frustrated at the ignorance on the water.

Virginia recently came out with a boating license law but I'm so old I don't have to worry about it for a while. They are phasing it in by age. The younger you are the sooner you have to be licensed.

26??? wtf is up with that?
and although I'm firmly against any licensing requirements for operators, etc... (I do think it is about revenue), I firmly believe that if i can kill a jetsier with a shotgun while underway, I should be allowed to bag a few each season... I had one ready to cut between my daughter and the boat yesterday while she was getting straight with her board to say "hit it". He was really close before he freakin woke up and almost lost it. I'm generally pretty tolerant, but he's lucky I wasn't armed that day... and that we didn't run across him at the ramp.
