Hi guys, the wife wants me to buy a family style bowrider...I know this is a performance boat site, but I figured you guys here will have as much or more experience than the average person when it comes to even family style boats.
To be more precise, I'm considering a Mariah, Chris Craft, Monterey, etc 18~20 footer, something that will hold its value. The Mariahs are easy to get info on (as far as which years they were made with wood stringers and hull construction, etc since they have their own cult following and the associated website, but recently the Cris Crafts 1990's ~ 2000's have been catching my eye, but I know zero about them!) Other than being way high priced, I can only assume it's a quality boat. Same with the Montereys and Cobalts. Anybody here have firsthand experience and could give some thoughts? Thanks for any input!

:iagree: the first thing I noticed was OMC outdrives exclusivily, I know nothing about them other than you don't see them on any offshore race applications. being made of carbonfiber or some other plastic definatly has corrosion resistance benifits. as for styling, very "Riva" esqe ;) the california guys have some very nice performance bowrider large tunnel designs w I/O power for better economy and zoom  can't think of any names right off the bat but I'll look around. fun out

I love my Hurricane Sundeck. Lots of seating, small head, plenty of storage, front platform for easy docking and beaching..... and with an outboard!

I'm not they'll be up to level of luxury you're looking for but IMO the Hurricanes are the best design I've seen in the 22-24' range with an outboard.

That said, if Checkmate designed the new 24' bow rider with a small head in the passenger console I'd be looking at those.

Ever considered a checkmate pulsare? They are apparently very well made and are a cool looking boat that still has decent performace. Sounds like that is what you are looking for. I was considering getting one of them but got a stream instead. I got the stream because the checkmate is a heavier boat more centered on quality I think whereas the stream is more about being lighter and therfore faster. That is my perception as a newbie.
I do have an 88 voyager XT that I am going to be putting up for sale With a 225 yamaha. I was in the same boat as you! Pun inteneded!

My wife wanted a family boat with a windshield that would not ruin her hair! So I got the voyager. It is a nice Balance between performace/Family/Skiing/and a stable ride. The XT with it's sponsons is a great starter boat for those who are starting out in the performance world and want a boat that is stable on pad because of the sponsons. We like the extra space the bowrider affords when we go out in the boat all day. It is nice for picnics.

I am selling it because the hull design I feel is not good for the lake I am now boating on That has changed and I need more of a deep vee that will handle a bigger chop. Before I was boating on a closed lake with not a lot of open water. Let me know if you are interested. I can send you some more details. I will be asking $7900 USD

The new checkmates are bad ass. Guy on here (derrick) has a new brx24 with a 300xs. Absolutly stunning boat. great room for the whole family and very quiet under power with the 300. Plus if you are anywhere near WILDMAN he could give ya a killer paint job for your new ride.

Unless you really wan a sterndrive i would highly recomend the checkmate. anyone here who has owned one can attest to their quality

The Regals have a stepped hull bowrider that get good performance and is an all-around well built boat. I used to work at a dealership in Miami, the 21' with a V-8 Volvo Penta package would get mid- 60's nice and comfortable too.

I have two 21 bowrider Checkmates and two 24 BRX bowrider Checkmates in stock. The 24's are very plush and still run over 70 mph. Click here to see what I have in stock.
