84 200hp not charging???

Need to know how to check my rectifier 84 200 merc.

If your tach work is working properly, move the tach sender wire from the terminal its on now to the other terminal with a yellow wire on it at the recetfier. Do not put it on with the red wire terminal. Check tach again. If your tach does not work normally in both cases the rectifier is bad.

Not sure what your telling me.
Can you check the rectifier with an ohm meter?

the rectifier with an ohmeter. Get a merc manual and it tells you this and many other things. You can rebuild your whole motor with these manuals.

This is just an ease way to tell in general if your rectifier is working. Since your tach works now simply move the gray wire on the rectirier to the other terminal on the rectfier with a yellow wire on it. Start the motor, if your tach works now your rectifier is good.

I was told to check the voltage on the yellow wires. 5-7 volts on the yellow wires and 12+ on the red one. The tach wire trick is cool. I'll have to try it sometime. Gotta love this board!!!!
