I've got a project boat that should be really cool...

'78 Vulture with a Fuel injected Bridgeport

my plan is to get a 15" Offshore mid & use 12" of setback

I am using the setback just because I have seen others do it??? maybe i don't need that much

any help is greatly appreciated - thanks

I had same boat and motor years back. The boat LOVES set back but the old transom hates it. Like 12-14" is good, For prop i think a Chopper worked well. Stay with 20" mid better bal.

yes... I think it is your old boat, there is a transom brace/bracket installed... why do you think a 20" is better?

would not need that much setback unless the hull is heavier than normal, has a hull abnormality (hook), engine has no power, you weigh a lot yourself (more than 250-275 lbs.), and/or you routinely carry a lot of weight/passengers.

A solid, straight, normal-weight (800-900 lbs.) Vulture with strong 2.5 power and not carrying much weight would typically need between 8" and 10" of setback, max.

From what others tell me 10" seems to be ideal on the Vulture. Thats what I will be running once I finish mine.

thanks guys...

what do you think about taking off the jackplate & just getting a monster manual transom jack?

this boat will be primarily a go fast... no skiing tubing, just flying:D
