Would anybody have a picture of one that I could have a look at,I have been told this would work better on my HST.

Check out Bob's. They used to sell them. If they don't have one I'm sure Rickracer could get you one.

How many people out there use this pickup compared to LWP? I have been having problems plugging mine up and overheating it,do they work better for cooling?.....

I use a Stainless Marine water pickup to feed both motors on my 21 Liberator tunnel. It's only 1/8th inch in the water and is tee'd off to feed both motors. I run the motors in the tunnels and they're 5 inches above the bottom. the lower unit pickup cools them at idle, but you need a check valve so the water does'nt run out the transom pickup. They cost $99.95
Wildman,
Would you have a picture of this product mounted on you ride, would really like to see one mounted. What make did you use,and did it keep the engine's cool? Thank's KIM

Here's a pic of the motors on the boat I just sold. You can see the pickup on the center sponson. It looks like chrome. It's the only thing that kept my motors cool at those engine hieghts. I,m setting up my new 21 this week and can send you better pics. I use Stainless Marine.

that would be so cool if you took more picture's of it installed. I just can't figure out how the pickup work's,is there something that face's the front of the boat like a tube?Thank's for the help..........;) :D

Assume you feed in at exhaust adapter housing. Do water pumps burn up faster due to less water being present or does water from the top keep them cool and lubed?

I have a LWP and it suck's,my brother in law the boat guru planted my motor in the ground. He doesn't know any thing about "jackplates",I took on some rock's and toasted it.Just had it rebuilt and toasted again.Took apart the low water pickup tube and it was full of rock's.I want something that will not get near rock's and do the job right..

The pickup works strictly by water pressure. You start with the pickup 1/4 inch down and grind off a little at a time till you have your desired pressure. Before I installed it, I had 5 lbs at 90 mph and zero after 95. I only had about 10 seconds till the warning horns went off. After I put it on and ground it down, I had 20 lbs all the way to 124 mph, And that's with only one pickup. As far as burning up the pumps, the transom water runs back down to the pump, keeping it cool. I never fried it in a year of driving it. Here's a sketch of the setup. I'll post actual pics when I get the new 21 setup. see-ya WILDMAN

What kind and where to get check valves.

just use 1/2 inch plumbing check valve from Home Depot or any plumbing supply. I mount them behind the jackplate so they don't show. I used the pvc ones.

Kim, Here is how we do it at Cougar. We build our own and plumb direct into waterpump. We use Aeroquip stuff including -12 stainless braided line. Forget about the hardware store stuff. These systems will move enough water to put out a big fire, so only heavy-duty parts need apply. Plumbing direct into the pump eliminates the need for a check valve.

That is a nice looking job on the transom pick up. I am considering doing the same thing with my 24 Skater. I don't have a center pod though. The sponsons have a huge step at the back too, so where do I mount everything?
I am assuming towards the lowest point of each sponson, but do these pickups hang down far enough to pick up water since my bottom is stepped?
Secondly, is this going to cause too much turbulence in the water in front of my gearcases?
Someone mentioned going through the bottom of the hull earlier, I would like more info on that one.
Thanks

I considered doing it that way, but did'nt want to tap into the lower unit and have all those hoses hanging out everywhere. Just my opinion.

All those Aeroquip hoses hanging there look awful pretty to me. But they should for as much as they cost.
Maybe that's why Cougar is getting so much money out of their boats:D J/K
Nice looking rig and thanks for the info.

Why not use an electric pump from the LWP straight into the exhaust divider and throw away the mechanical water pump. We could have 20 PSI of cooling water all the time. No?

The point of the transom mounted pickups are so you can quit relying on the LWP on the lower unit, therefore allowing higher engine heights. I read earlier where a guy actually removed his impeller, water pump assembly, etc. and filled the inlet holes on the lower unit after he went to transom pickups with electric water pumps for low speed supply.

He also went straight to the divider.
