What would cause my fuel pressure to be high after rebuilding carbs??
Was like 5# before, now reads 12# at idle, but not leaking past needle/seat??
It currently has an electric fuel pressure gage with a sender, I will verify with mechanical gage, but I cant see what would make it get that much higher??

12# is WAY too high IF your gauge is accurate...Needles and seat might hold a while sitting still BUT the bouncing and bumping when running WILL cause them to leak at that high pressure...

Thanks Jay,
I figured 12# was too high, and eventually will leak, but any idea how it got that high?? Was fine before I rebuilt carbs?? After I seen it that high, I replaced the fuel pump, but still high. Actually drops when I hit the gas, and the needles on the carbs open up?? I did run it like this a few miles idling, and a few miles at WOT, no problems(YET), but wife wants to take people out next weekend, and last thing I need is the needle/seats giving up, and have fuel leaking all over:eek:

Im not a carb guy BUT when I was running them I use a Holley regulator at 4 to 5 PSI.. I never had much much higher... Might try to locate a holley regulator..

Do you run a return line? If you do might it have gotten kinked when you reinstalled the carbs? The would raise your pressure.

Just a stock setup, diaphragm style stock pump mounted on motor, enrichment valve thingy, no return line that I know of, no room for regulator between pump and fuel inlet on carb.

Where is your sender at?

mounted inline just above the carbs, between the pump and carb inlet

I'd try that, putting it where your sender is. 12# should be dumping fuel all over.

Have you checked it with a master guage,JMO not a big fan of electric guages.

Not yet, I will get one this weekend, I also believe it is the sender, and dont care for electric gages, but it was the easiest way to get a gage in the dash and worked fine for over a year.

Thanks guys,
I figured it out, it was a bad sending unit as I suspected. Got a mechanical gage, and even though it bounces(not liquid filled) it runs between 3 and 7 pounds, with 8-9 at WOT.
