Hi guys, I came across a clean baja 184, I think it's a 1984 with a decent trailer for 700$ it takes up to a 175hp engine, I have an 84 merc 115 tower of power and was wondering if it would be alright on the 18ft boat, the boat seemed pretty light. Thanks, Shawn

Most people here would want a V6 on an 18' boat. I don't think 115 on that boat would be very fast, but you could cruise around and pull water toys (with the right prop).

Check the boat for rot, core, transom, floor.

184 Baja open bow with 140 Evinrude cross flow and 23 inch V-4 Chopper on a jack plate with 4 inch set-back- 54 mph. With 175 Evinrude cross flow V-6 and 24 inch Turbo II prop it ran 63 mph. This was in the pre-gps days, but I was running a stock OMC speedometer that was considered to be pretty accurate in its time.

Yeah seems like the v6 is the way to go, he does have a merc black max 175 with a bad piston, and a spare 150 block I could bolt on for 600$, seem like a decent price fellas?

A friend of mine has that same boat and does 75mph with a 135 merc. He straightened out the bottom and got a lot out of it.

I was thinking of running the 115 (old 140hp powerhead) for now and getting a jackplate for the boat. The boat is in really good shape, couldn't beat the price $680 for the boat, and trailer, all steering, cables, gauges, new seats, decent carpet and no rot, and I found out it's an '86... The top clear coat was wet sanded, so I think if I buff it out it'll be fine, the sides are glossy as can be. What year was that merc 135? thanks, Shawn-
