I have a buddy with a 2001 merc 90 carb 2 stroke that wont start.
He has rebuilt the fuel pump, starter, changed plugs and wires but still wont start. He says hes not getting any spark. How can he double check this?

Any way to by pass the kill switch to check if thats the problem?

Thanks,
Nelson

Have you tried grounding the plugs to see if they have any fire ?

He said he did and didnt get a spark. Do you have instruction on how to check? I want to make sure we are doing it right.

If you have a plug grounded on the head and not seeing any spark ,it is time to start trouble shooting with a mulitmeter .I say this positively, if you are having trouble checking spark it may be time to take it to a tech .

I'm pretty sure he did it correctly but as I wasn't there I can't be sure. Can you tell me what can cause no spark for example the kill switch? I'm no tech but do appreciate your help and no offense is taken. We would rather try to learn and fix it on our own. If not we will get a mechanic involved. Thanks Again

You will need a manual ,to understand how the electrical system on your motor works .It is a simple process of elimination ,but 2 or 3 pages of typing

Gotcha. I appreciate your help. I guess we will try eliminating the small stuff and see what happens.

If you have sparks... Now check for fuel, and bring to a mechanic first..
