I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mick I have a 1985 Hydrostream Vegas that I have owned since 1989. In 1995 I put a
new 2.5 EFI Merc. on it. It has always ran great. Now the problem is
it hesitates and boggs down on accel. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs, fuel, I have cleaned the ports to the regulator and the ECU (which were stopped up). My question is with the new fuel pressure regulator on the engine, with the key on engine not running the fuel flows straight through it, is this normal or do I have a bad
(non returnable) regulator. Thanks for any help. Mick

Fuel pressure should be a stable 39-41 PSI. Lots of different things could cause your problem. Not enough info to make a good recommendation.

Thanks for the PSI range. But should the fuel flow all the way through the fuel pressure regulator even when the key is just in the on position, or does it need the vacuum assist before it should open. Sorry about not enough info, but just trying to eliminate the obvious first.

The fuel will flow through as long as the pump is turned on. All the vacuum line does is help to try to pull the fuel psi down a little when the motor is pulling lots of vacuum while idling and low throttle cause there is low fuel demand in those conditions

Thanks, rpm...it sounds as if it (the fuel pressure reglator) is working the way it should, so I will go to the lake tonight to see does better....I just discovered the
stopped up port behind the ECU Tuesday night, and cleaned it out, has not been on the water since.
