HI and welcome to Scream and Fly..... I can tell you what I torque these bolts at other may do different but its worked for me and my engine building programs...
I torque "0" ringed heads at 25 ft lbs first and 38 ft lbs on last torque session. The 30 lbs and 90 degreed is IMO a bunch of BS and will cost you the failure of female block threads. I clean female block threads and male bolt threads and apply anti sezze , or grease to the male thread a a shot of light oil on the bolt head flange and washer to make torque values accurate.
I torque rod bolts to first 20-25 ft lbs then lastly 40 ft lbs with the addition of RED LOCTITE to a cleaned bolt thread and a female thats also been cleaned , chased and dry...
Hope thats helped, I have never had a rod bolt failure ( SPS ) and I maybe have 1 in a thousand head bolt block boss thread issue... I torqued heads at less that the OEM specs but hardley ever have head gaskets fail or female thread issues..
1. Flywheel torque ..............150 FT lbs w/271 loctite
2. End caps upper ...............20 ft lbs w/271 loctite
3. Lower end cap.................100 in lbs W/271 loctite
4. spark plugs .....................20 ft lbs
5. Reed attaching screws ......25 inch lbs ( I use blue loctite )
6. Reed Block mounting bolts..120 Inch lbs ( w/271 loctite )
7. Crank case bolts TOP .......45 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
8. Crank case bolts 4 middle...40 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
9. Crank case bolts 2 Btm......35 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite)
10. outer 10 crankcase bolts .30 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
11. exhaust divider plate bolts 20 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite)
12. Injector hold down nuts....60 inch lbs
13. Reed plate to crankcase...120 inch lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
14. EFI Air horn 1/4" bolts ......120 inch lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
15. EFI Air horn 5/16" bolts ....20 ft lbs ( I use 271 loctite )
16. Rod bolts ......................40 ft lbs (I use 271loctite )
17. Head bolts I torque to 38 ft lbs ( I use lubrication of male bolt threads and bolt flange and washers...
I use allot of loctite products inside and out of these engines that the OEM specs don't call for BUT when you take the cowling off after 1 year of use after I put one together 1/2 the bolts aren't laying in the pan like others either !
Again this is the way I DO things others my have different paths and ways thats been just successful for them. I suggest you read, digest and choose from all information given what the best path for you and your application and engine program.
Good luck and WELCOME ABOARD !
