driveshaft play

should there be any vertical play from the driveshaft coming out of the water pump?
I am new to outboards

they all jump up when they are started . this is where the 25 thou. is held on pinion height unless its a dual bearing sportmaster drive shaft then you set it to this pinion height and its held there by the lower bearing of the dual bearing set up clear as mud:D:D:D
