can you take out one of the upper piston and rod while on the mid??? thanks tripps

Yes you can,you have to remove the intake and reed plate and cylinder head,then turn the crank til the rod bolt lines up where you can get the 12 point 3/8 socket on it through the reed cage slot.I would not recommend reusing the rod bolts.

To add to that. The bearings are not fun to put back on the crank journal. They are not fixed into the bearing cages. Need lots of assembly lube and alot of patience.

Make sure you have the connecting rod cap in the right position,you can mark the cap with an arrow to up position ,and take your time to look for an exactly line up before final torque the bolts.
Also befor final torque ,try to turn the bearing with a small screwdriver (that is not sharp) and watch thru the oil slot in the connecting rod cap if all the rollers are in place.
