I'm thinking of getting one of these things so I don't have to change my prop. I'm used to having and eating my cake.
Also like the idea of low pitch for hole shot but large for top end.
I wrote to them and they do make a cleaver design and in the 32" size I would want. Diameter is 15.25" which I'm sure they could reduce.
No warranty for cut or surfaced props. No big news there, most props don't have one.
Any problems with running one of these?
Will they stand up to being surfaced?
Does the variable blade changing bit get damaged?
With a 32" what would be the starting pitch?
For what one of these cost I think its a bargain if they work but if I break it I'm broke!
3 used props would cost close to one of these new. A used and new prop about the same. So by getting one new prop that replaces those I like it but not if I'm going to break it.
Why aren't more people using them???? It can't be cost since a couple props cost the same as one of these.
Should have added "Yes, our XP blade is a cleaver design with a rounded tip."

Overall its the very best 2 speed prop out there. One glitch. If you are running over 7500 rpm then you need to have the weights lightened. They have a hi rev kit they can put in for you. We ran one for drag racing and shifted at 7500, spun it 9000. Worked perfect. Marv Jorgenson at Chopper City Sports has lots of experience with them too. Excellent product. They pitch within 1/4 P per blade! I have run them over 105 and Marv over 115. Try running the big dia and raising the motor before you cut the blades. Email if you need more info. I still have 3 of these for personal use. I know of one for sale. Steve

Wow!! $1600.00 for a prop is more than I would spend unless I was making 6 figures. You could buy quite a few good used props for that and still take the famm out for dinner.:D I think you'd be better off buying a couple used props and spending the rest on something else for your boat in the long run. Just my.02!

I have run a few of the Aerostars and used to sell them, but they became too expensive to stock for the average boater. I had some initial problems getting the prop to shift smoothly, but eventually they worked out the problem and I was very satisfied with both the low end punch and the top end speed. Their workmanship was top notch. I was not running their props in a surfacing application so I cannot attest to how well they may or may not stand up to the additional stresses of running near the surface. Just like our engines, high rpm does cause additional stress and I would suspect that annual replacement of some internal components will be normal. One should also consider the fact that such instant bottom end torque from the initial low pitch is going to place more stress than usual on such things as propshaft splines, driveshaft splines, transom jacks and boat transoms. While the thrill of "jack rabbit" take-offs can be fun, I ease my boat up on plane with the peace of mind knowing I'm reducing stress on my boat and drivetrain...and my wallet!!

one for a lot less then $1600 with all the work done for hi rpm. My buddy Lee sold one for $700 with the mods. 2 boat lengths over his best Yamaha and it will carry weight too. If you want a prop that does just about everything all in one then thats the prop I'd choose. Top end was only down a few mph over a good running chopper.

very good friend who is selling his entire prop inventory to buy another Aerostar for a spare. HE LOVES IT. This guy is very well versed in performance O\B technology. He has a XB2002 with a mod 260 ss and he has put all of his other props up for sale after running the high rev A-star. Maybe he will see this and post his own thoughts....

Doesn't the blade go back to the low pitch as soon as it exits the water. It will be flapping like a hummingbird wing adn I wouldn't excpect it to last for more than 10 minutes. Been then again 10 minutes on Techno's boat is about 20 years...good investment at $1600.

2 used props $800 dollers plus tuning. One is a dog out of the hole, the other is too slow. $800 dollers and neither "works".
2 new props- a more realistic comparision $1600 to 2000+. Again neither works. And neither carries a warrantee either!
Your out and the fast prop is on but you want to go slow. Your hassled but change it. ( might have to go 30)
The next time you go out you want the fast prop but you changed it last time! Change it again!
1 prop that is the only prop your going to buy-$1600 new or used with new blades ordered for it-$1100.
The 2 props cost $800 and one isn't quite what you wanted, sell it buy another. This begins to cost a lot. I hate changing props so if one prop does what all the props I'm going to buy in the future will then it ends up being cheaper. A used Aerostar with new blades isn't too bad a deal.
The 32" is calculated top speed I want. I don't want to spin to short rebuild times and I expect to stay at higher speeds when I do get there. Just redid the calc and 30" probably will work, this is nice leasurely 7grand for a hundred cruising speed.
If you want to know how much all these props cost ask Liqui-fly! HE he. How many do you have now?
I think the blades spin together so they all are at the same pitch. But having one in the water, one coming out and the 3rd entering has to be job for it.

You need to stop thinking about all this trash and just run the thing. That STV will accelerate and hold wicked top end witha dog gone aluminum through the hub. Get that think together and put a 28 ET on it and have a ball and if you really want to rip come try a 31 lab Cleaver I can get my hands on. No more thinking...time to do!! As for the Aerostar...why do you think nobody is using them??

Nobody is using them because nobody wanted to buy them at $1000 new and most people have never seen one. Buy a good used one for $600 or a tweaked one for $750 . They do not have any problems surfacing, they run like crazy and they are very dependable. I don't think you can beat the acceleration on a heavy boat and the topend is awesome. Have you ever run a tweaked one? Borrow one for goodness sakes if you are serious about getting one. I would certainly not dismiss them.

I've pretty much stopped working on the thing. I wanted some summer to enjoy instead of working all the time. So now more stuff is apart and whatever has to be done has to be done once so I don't have to do more later. Just about the whole boat will be redone so I shouldn't have to work in the future.
I think the only thing not apart is the trim pump, and thats next. The cylinder had oil boogers in it and the O-rings need to be changed. They're scuffed. The swivel clamp did turn out to need a rebuild.
The other thing is money is short. Got to plan for the winter buys.
My biggest prop is a 26" chopper and is too slow.
Gauges
Prop
Sportmaster
Jack plate
Wire harness
Fuel pump
interior
ECU???
The list goes on.
$$$$
The reason I think no one uses anything when they don't is no one told them to. Look at the Mad EFI/ SDS system. 1 grand and never needs more money. All the other ones are big bucks and never perfect, but everyone keeps buying them.
The Aerostar is big bucks but seems to do what I want. 1 prop. 1 buy.

Wait on the prop
Your boat doesn't need a jackplate...really it doesn't...if you do I got a 4" L&S manual (has 1 screw adjustment) CHEAP!!
Sportmaster...CLE w/ BOB's
What wiring harness? I got the keyswitch and harness (CHEAP)brand new
Got an ECU too...guess what?? CHEAP

The boats gotta be painted. Then all the stuff put back together and put in. My car is hurtin and I never got the Vette fixed this year (next year again). I'll be happy if I get off my butt and paint it before the cold nights. 4+4 days just for the epoxy primer to cure. Bottom and top.
I don't want a jack plate but without one I think the skeg will become a plow I won't be able to tilt much. My driveway will eat it. I have a manual but am not unbolting and jacking just to trailer it.
My present LU is an Inline? and I think it was welded. So a replacement is whole hog -go with the sportmaster since I need something.
The harness was spliced, WHY? I don't know maybe to make it longer, but its spliced inside the rigging hose area. A future problem that I don't want to happen.
I have an ECU but might get the Mad one so I don't have to play with this one next summer.
All I have to do is send in those tax returns and I got a little play money. I'm not admitting to how many tax returns though!
