View Full Version : I finally decided to put stripes on the Shelby

All '65 & '66 Shelby Mustangs had Lemans Stripes from Shelby. Supposedly NONE of the '67's did, with the exception of Caroll Shelby's PERSONAL '67 500 Convertible, which was the ONLY '67 Shelby convertible built. Anyway, when I bought this car about 25 years ago from the second owner (first owner only had it for 6 mos) it had the stripes, BUT the paint was in bad shape. Since it was stripped and painted in the '90's it never had the trim back on around the windows, because I couldn't decide whether to stripe it or not. The Shelby gurus seem to think that putting them on neither helps nor hurts the value, because so many of them (probably most of 'em actually) had the stripes dealer installed when new.

So last week I'm watching a Mecuum Auction rerun where they had a bunch of Cobra and Shelby stuff, and the cars that went through made me decide to go ahead and stripe mine, so I took it to my friend's bodyshop last week, and they've been puttin' on the stripes. These pics were from early this morning. It's still not back together, but whole car has been buffed since pics were taken, so it's lookin' a LOT better this afternoon. The stripes give it a whole new personalilty and I'm glad I did it. (more pics to follow when all back together)
