CLE Propshaft

I'm putting my two holed CLE gear case back together and noticed just behind where the taper is for the thrust washer that the shaft has rust pits. (1/64 to 1/32 deep) Is this a place where I should worry about the shaft snapping? (because of the pits) They are at the very base of the taper. If this is a trouble spot would I be better off to chuck the shaft up in a lathe and take just enough material off to remove the pits? This shouldn't weaken the shaft, but the pits may cause this area to be weaker.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.
