View Full Version : Thumbs up - Tony Brucato, OMC EFI, and Nick Winski

I finally got to take my boat out yesterday and run it for 45 minutes or so (no wake is at 7:00). Nick Winski at Wintech installed and setup my Brucato OMC EFI and Tony Brucato was a HUGE help in getting me everything necessary including a selection of fuel curves for me to try. I have the PCU software so it was easy to install them and get one that was very close. With a tweak of the steamwheel, the motor runs awesome and will get better and better as I can dial-in each part of the fuel curve.
Accelleration is much improved and the mid-range is wicked. It makes the boat feel 200-300 pounds lighter. Stabbing the throttle at 25MPH or so is wicked. The torque is awesome.
The kit was complete and the instructions were simple. Nick took the time to run the wires and wiring harness through the normal wire routing areas of the motor so it looks like the system should be there. The motor started right up and with a few tweaks to the idle knob in the PCU, the motor will idle at 600rpm in gear...putt putt putt putt.
I'm looking forward to getting it on the clock at the SLDBA race in St. Louis next month to see what difference it makes time wise and speedwise.
Here are some pics of the install and a link to a video (sorry, crappy cell phone video) of the motor running.

Sounds awsome!! Looks Awsome to. Tony is a great guy. He has helped me out tramendiously dialing in my ACU. One day Ill have all the goodys like you have. The soft wear with the PCU sounds like the way to travel. Haveing the ability to tweek to differant fuel curves would be so sweet! Would you change the curve for differant props to get the most out of the pitch? Is that something you do with the computer? Or do you just dial it in the way you want and run any prop to that curve Sam?

Nick Winski (http://www.wintechperformance.com) is a Brucato dealer. Give him a call - he can help you. Or of course you can call Tony as well.

We were thinking and we figure it out your nos tanks are in your live well looks like a clean setup dam now I have to run a drag motor in lake racer just to keep up with you nick does clean work.
Sam Baker
05-22-2009, 07:40 PM
I took out one piston and put the NOS tank in there. That way, with 5 pistons, I'm even with you at 2.5 liters...keeps it a little fair. Your Drag Motor will just have to settle for second place which is a huge improvement for you.

Sam, I'm glad to see that EFI unit on your motor. Tony should be sending mine out any day now for the V-8. Nick is going to install mine as well. Hopefully we can get it out to some of the races yet this year.

Beautiful job by Nick. If it runs like most of Tony's stuff, you will love it.

the pcu is really a great tool. get the steamwheel and the software and it is still cheaper than a new merc ecu. a lot of race guys swear by the merc ecu, but i like the pcu myself. i'm debating getting another one for the drag. the customer support is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great pix's Sam.
Really shows the engineering that Tony put into this system.
With having done the Mad system on mine I can see the attention to detail in Tony's system.
Great package, great guy to do business with.
Good luck this season Sam.

cool.
There's a guy down here with Tonys set up on an 8.
IMO, I'd think they 8 is maybe THE best target for an EFI update.
Keep us posted Travis.

fact.
Monty helped with the motor and may have built the p.head (he told me and that it was getting Tonys system) and Tony sent him a system (Tony told me that too).

Gary, I think you're talking about Steve in WPB, his is a V6 built by Monty and has my EFI on it. Travis has the first V8 conversion that I've made.
The 8 is definately a perfect candidate for the upgrade.

Thats exactly who I'm thinking of but I thought FOR SURE we talked about it being an 8.
My bad.
Travis, I will be watching you guys closely as I came within a nats eye lash of doing an 8 for my last project and still plan on one.
Just came from my local supplier who just sold two running 300's for $1K for the pair

The EFI system should be going on in about a week. Gonna bring it up to Nicks place. I might be able to do it myself but i'm just not willing to take a chance on it. Although the instructions that I got are very detailed I'd rather have someone with some more knowledge work with it.
Also wanted to Thank Tony and Linda for this whole procedure. They are very patient and super nice people. Just talking to either one of them it was like we have been friends for years. I look forward to future dealings with them.:thumbsup:

I hope so. I don't know if I can handle doing another project if this one has bad results.

The boat is going up to Nick's shop Thursday for the installation. Get the EFI done, figure out the ignition problems, and finish up the cable and pulley steering. Then we're going to have some fun!!!!!!!!!!!
