I just purchased on Monday a Hydrostream Valero. I have ran v-drives in the past, but it has been a few years. This particular boat has new seating, new gauges, rigging, steering, and jack plate. Also a EFI Mercury 175 with approximately 50-60 hours. I would like to find a windshield for my boat, and what prop would be the best prop for maximum speed once I get use to driving this outboard. The hull weighs 650lbs.

Also ya mite want to do a search in upper right on Hydrostreams lots of info, lot of Stream owners on here. Greg, screamandfly, the site owner even has 1 kinda for sale :icon_bs: :D. If ya haven't seen it check it out, in the hulls under 20' sorta dirty and it even has been in the water like 3 times for photo shoots. :p

I've had a lot of luck running a merc big ear chopper and a hoss hpd on my Valero YT. The other suggestion I have is that these hulls like a lot of motor height, so jack the motor up until you lose water pressure then go back down 1/4 ". Mine was downright scary at 70+ with the motor low, but now runs 80+ like a puppy dog with the propshaft above the pad.

Make sure you have low water pickups and jack the motor up so the prop shaft is about 1" above the pad. A merc chopper 24-26 would run the boat into the 70's with your 175..maybe even 80 with some work.

I took it out for the first time today. What a blast! I was running 65 by speedo, and the motor was turning 4500 rpm's. It was dancing some, I did not have it very dry since I am new to outboards and wasn't ready to go swimming yet. I need a low water pickup kit, Is Bob's a good one or what do you suggest? I will say that Sucker will get right with it! The boat came down from N.Y. in 2005 to Texas, and since them it has been repowered with a fresh 175. It is spinning a Quicksilver II 25 pitch. I will post a pic I took today soon. Thanks for all your help!

My Bro. is running a 175 carb on his Valero V with a 28P Mazco RE-3 and CMC jack. Running the propshaft even with the pad, 80+ is easily attainable.
One guy Tom who roams the forums has a Valero YT with 200 Offshore and runs 90 +. His machine rips although I'm not sure what prop he runs.

It's doubtful your Valero is 650 lbs. More than likely it's heavier.

I was thinking 650 for some reason, I might not be right about that. The guy I bought it from said the engine builder and he had the 80 mph speedo pegged on a test run. I need to get the prop shaft up some and install a low water pick up. The hull really seems light for some reason though. Thanks!
