I had to replace a switch box on my rebuilt 97 promax, I decided on CDI's racing power packs and after talking with TJ the tech at CDI he recommended to replace the stator also with a racing stator #274-5456s15, which is a 16 amp, I think now after looking at the new one it only has 2 leads to the volt regulators and the current one which is a stock Merc has 4 yellow wires?? I believe I have a 40 amp one?? not sure? The current 97 promax has 2 voltage regulators with 2 yellows for each one? anyone have any ideas? and is it o.k. to just switch out the power packs and take it easy as I need the boat for the weekend! the current stator works fine now!

U have a 40 amp system, and tha 16 amp stator will not work with your flywheel, nor your regulators.....U have to swap flywheel, regulators to rectifier and regulator, stator, and retap thatop cap, or replace it with bolts...It'z not just an easy bolt on swap....U have to have it all...My opinion, if your stator iz good, and ya ain't turn'in over 7200-7500, leeve it alone....U don't need them Hi po packs either...JMO!!

I agree. Yer not going to turn much over 6500 with an XR4. Stock anything for switchboxes, don't need racing anything to get all yer gonna get outa that thing. Hell, Rex can blow up a 2.4 at around 10 grand with stock lectrics.

Don't get me wrong, I love my XR4. It's just that if you want to waste money, send me some, at least you'll have a friend.

hope it helps

well I need the power packs anyways and the money is already spent, so your are saying I can put the packs in with my reg stator and all will be o.k.?

its not an xr4, it's a 225 promax with some goodies on including reworked heads, top pinned pistons, racing reeds, etc, I was having difficulty getting rpm's over 6500, then a swithc box went bad and thought I wood spend a little extra.
