OK...I've acquired a 1996 ProMax with less than 100 hours on it that is still running with the oil injection. I will be removing it asap. However, my question is this...
Previous owner wanted to keep the remote oil tank that was mounted in the boat, since he's moving to an OptiMax. I didn't have a problem with this, since I already knew I was removing the oil injection anyway.
Now, I know that proper protocol when removing the oil injection is to run the engine for 10-15 minutes from a premixed tank BEFORE you remove the injection to make sure all the fuel in the engine has oil in it. I guess my question is...can I hook it up to a premixed tank and run it, depending on the reserve tank to provide the oil for it, since it's already been disconnected from the main tank? Or, is there a way to drain the fuel it has in its system, and just hook up a pre-mix tank and run it? Or, is there a better way to do it.
I bought the motor strictly as a backup motor to my 260, and chances are good (hopefully) that it will sit on a stand in my shop until I have to tear the 260 down for refreshing.
