I made an offer on a Nautic Star 2200 last week that was accepted, I go down this coming Wensday to inspect and sea trial the boat....

I was trying to do a little research with regards to what I thought I was buying, and I could never findany info matching my model #,,,,finally found a link here at Scream & Fly.....still couldn't match my model # up to any listed models for the small block,,,,,scrolled up to the 200HP HO and my model was listed there!!!!!

I like to have fell outta my chair!!!!!

does anybody have any info with regards to model #'s that can confirm this???

If I am correct, exactly what does it mean that its a High output model??

pro's or cons for this?? are they better than the standard model??

200hp is still 200hp...right?? just a differnt platform????

any input would be greatly appreciated...especially since I'm going down to sea trial next week

here is the document I found

I think you have the stronger of the two 200's. I believe yours is the big block which will have a lot more lower end grunt then the small block 200, but at the sacrifice of some extra weight. Both are fairly good motors, but the small block 200 is better suited to lighter hulls. If your a performance boater you might want to look for a Optimax powered hull. The 200hp optimax whooped up on the 250 etec by 47 laps this year at Rouen, so imagine what the 250 opti would have done

owned 6 differnt bass boats,,,and finally got tired of the "rat race" so i decided its time to get my 5 year old son into the mix...wanted a boat that I can Bass fish out of here in Atlanta, and hit the flats around Keaton beach for trout and reds and sheephead ...and add in a little "offshore" stuff...my 20 foot bass boat was nice, but I opted for versatility of a bay boat...

the boat was not advertised as having an "HO" etec, so I was totally caught off guard when the model #'s came up as an HO model...

"Nope got burnt out on the fast thing" Sounds like the Etec is perfect for you then

You'll be fine and you got the better of the two motors for your application.

NNT you are so full of Crap its pathetic, why put doubts into someones mind that is looking for Professional Opinion not CRAP that you personally have no idea what your talking about...So you know SLAYER, NNT is a Hater, when it comes to 3liter plus 200hp outboards, all 3 brands are excellent, believe it or not, but the 3.3liter 200 HO, which would say 200DHLsc or 200SHl, depending on if its white or blue, they are really a 225hp outboard, truly....I personally have done back to back testing with the same boat, with both a 200 Optimax and a 200 HO Etec, both are terrific, what you will prefer like the rest of the ETEC buyers is no smoke, Low noise, smooth as hell, best in class power, 3yr maintenance cylces that are cheap and EZ, simply replace the fuel filter, 6 spark plugs (if needed),Computer scan, and BRP XR Lower unit fluid, YOu have No air pump to Detonate,no belts to replace,Really BRP hit a Huge home run with the ETEC lineup, If you like SLAYER call me ANYTIME, I can take the serial # plug it into BRPs computer and let you know if it had any major or minor work on it, also It will tell us if BRP has updated its computer program......I also can let you know some simple and efficient ways to save money and have 1 of the best outboards EVER made, PERIOD......See slayer Ignorance is EZ, and I dont want you to be detered by Ignorance....Simply call Me day or night for REAL information.....920-295-2069 worner_brannon@yahoo.com Most importantly Slayer make sure you have fun with your new boat......Brannon

2006 model
Aprox 220hp
25" transom motor
Gear Ratio: 1.85:1

Have the motor reset by the dealer to ZD50 or Tc-W3 oil setting if not already. This supply's a little extra oil to the motor if its driven real hard.

Best oil is BRP XD100.

Go to a dealer & get a printout from the computer (EMM). The dealer can also give you details of any warranty work done from BRP.

The absolute best website on the planet for E-Tec owners is located here:- www.etecownersclub.com (http://www.etecownersclub.com)
There is a massive support base here with people & dealers only too willing to help you with anything to do with an E-Tec. Log in, ask questions, Check it out. You won't be dissapointed. I'll see ya there.

Slayer, don't worry about ol NNT. He's like a chihuahua, barks like hell but really is no harm lol!

I love my Etec. You will love the 200HO. Prop it to turn 5700 with a normal load, make sure it is running the latest update of plugs, that it has had the deflector pin update done if needed (only required on early production 06's), and that it has the latest update in the EMM. The latest EMM updates put it into the TCWIII oil setting in which it uses more oil, but even then it still doesn't use much. My 06 did have a powerhead let go at 138hrs due to a faulty injector, they replaced it with an 08 model and it is great. It was replaced in Oct 07 and hasn't been in the shop a single day since. I do replace the gear oil and plugs once per year, and do stop by once in a while to see if there is a new map update.

Also, even though it is on the TCWIII setting, you will want to run the XD100 oil. It is a synthetic and has detergents in it to cut down and almost (but not totally) eliminate carbon buildup in the engine. Also run BRP 2+4 in each tank of fuel to combat these damn ethanol issues and it will be a happy motor.

I don't know if he mentioned it, but make sure to go ahead and change the fuel filter...and keep it changed regularly. I swap mine every 6 months or so, it's piece of cake and takes less than 5 minutes to do.

If you do change plugs...make sure that they are the proper, update plug and also note that they must be indexed. The procedure sounds like a pain in the ass, but is simple after you do it the first time.

The only real complaint I have with mine is that no one at my dealer believes what prop I turn lol! The last time they pulled the data from my EMM they told me to go up to a 27 to get my rpms down. I told the tech I was turning a 28 already. He didn't believe it until he looked down and saw the 28 on the propshaft lol!:D

So Evinrude or Mercury? Is evinrude a better choice for recreational boaters who worry about reliability and maintence, or is mercury better. I still want to go scary fast with out all the rebuild maintence headache.

That is more of an opinion than anything else. BOTH have there strong and weak points, it boils down to what YOU like best.

Yep, turns a 28 Raker2 at 5950-6000 rpms with a full fishing load, add a partner and his gear and it will still pull 5800...:thumbsup: Not bad for a fishin boat with an 1850lb bare hull weight...:D

The biggest issue with the BRP motor is a lower unit that stays together when you surface a prop.

Not sure if they have fixed that lately, but that is the weak point from what I have seen.

The E-tec's I have seen on the water are dead silent at idle. They have kind of a deep sound. Everyone I spoke to with one has had nothing but praise for them.

The gearcase problems have been addressed some years ago with the L2 gearcase. Absolutely, once & for all. In addition they are right up there on efficiency despite not having low water pickups. A friend of mine on this forum has just run 101.3mph with a dead stock E-Tec 250HO on an STV @ 5950rpm with very strong water pressure. Thay are an incredible engine.
