I notice a lot of driveshafts for Sportmasters wanted in the classified section. Everyone probably has the same problem I do. The driveshaft is pitted from the top seal being bad. When you have the seal replaced naturally it goes bad right away again because of the driveshaft.

I found a place that can spray weld the shaft and bring it back to specs. They are in Altamont, N.Y. Not sure if I am supposed to give out their number on here so I won't yet. I was ready to spend 800 for a new one. He has done several others. I will let you know how it works for me. Hopefully he won't give me the shaft.

There are a number of reputable machine shops that can weld and turn'em with good results, and like You mentioned a new shaft just isn't cost effective unless the one You've is broke.. The shafts can also be turned dow a bit and sleeved over the bad area...

I just saw so many people and friends buying new one's. Thought maybe I had discovered something here. Just trying to help. I'm glad everyone isn't buying new driveshafts.

For $200, Robert Saunders, at Roberts Precision Machine will plasma spray the affected area with a high nickel plasma, that will never corrode. Houston Texas, 713-771-0095. 1-2 day turn around.

This sounds better than my guy. Maybe I should get it back. He said the end of next week. Then it has to be put back together. Which means I probably won't have it for Memorial Day Weekend. It's my own fault for putting it off until now.
