My dual steering is very hard to turn and gives my arms a very good workout when trying to drive. Does anybody know where to get one of these systems? Also somebody told me to drill a small hole in the cable and spray grease and work the steering wheel>? But it hasnt helped it none. Just alot of dirt and rust coming out. Any suggestions or help would be VERY appreciated.THanks.

Save some time and money put hydrlic in it and you won't be sorry.Cable won't last long they are hard from the start if you take the slack out. One of my freinds just put new duals in his boat and then drove mine and orderd hydrolic when he got home. You won't be sorry the duels will run you 400.00 if you replace all the parts are you can spend that and a little more to have the best

Could you be talking about motor torque when your on high end or is it also hard to steer when at idle speeds and off of plane??
Just keep working the cables with the solvents (WD 40) and it might get better. New cables run about $80.00 so.......

At both idle and fast speeds it's very difficult to drive. Even if it's on the trailer it takes boat hands with a lot of force to turn it. Can you just by the 2 steering cables or does it all come together in a kit or something? Any ideal where to get them? Thanks

Hydrolic ? I have heard guys on here say they are dangerous with high speed boats? But I do like them my cousins bass boat has it and it's really nice. I heard that people over correct when running high speeds with that type of steering? What kind of boat you running it on? THanks. for the help.
Dual-cable is fine as long as it's set up right and the cable is kept lubed inside.
I can drive mine with one finger, it's 19 years old and all original.

The older Teleflex dual cable setup (completely seperate cables) is about 2 turns lock to lock. The newer NFB (No feed back) setup is about 4 turns lock to lock. It's a good system. Engine force cannot move the steering, but reasonable steering force will move the engine.
On any of them, if the cables are installed with bends too tight, will wear into the housing of the cable and bind up. If they get a little water in them, they really get tight, and are pretty much toast.
You can make an adapter that will seal up the engine end of the cable and allow you to force lubricant into the cable assembly. I think someone on the board has drawings for that.
You may have to replace the steering, as the older cables are getting hard to find. There should be a part number embossed in the jacket near the engine that discloses both type and length.
hope it helps

The local boat dealer can get new cables they may have to order them.I can order them I'm a dealer for donavan but hydrolic is much better its a little more money but save I run it on a drag boat. The guy who had the boat befor me ran it also on the boat with a 300 drag boat done well over 100 in the 1/8 so I think it would be save on your boat this is a 470 pound stream

Guys, I just replaced my dual rack and pinion steering. The best price was $300 for Outdoor Superstore.. My Merc dealer wanted $500...The rack comes with the two cables as the cables are not replaceable by themselves. I have a 19ft Daytona and I would not put Hydrollic in it.. All it takes is to turn the wheel too sharp at 90 and you know where you end up......$300 is a lot less than $1000.............

There is a part number and a cable length usually stamped on the cable about a foot from one end or the other. If you take that number to a teleflex dealer, they may be able to match it up for you and get a cable replacment.

Not if you buy the correct system for the high speed application.
The Dual opposed rac and pinion is a great system if installed correctly with no kinks or binds. I have a like new complete system that is avaliable if someone is interested it will rig a 18 to 20 boat. I replaced it on my liberator this winter with the Sea Star PRO 1500 psi 7400 series.

If $$ is a question, it sounds like you simply need a couple new cables & you'll be good to go.:smiletest:
