saw this post on another forum and thought I would share it , The last time my antenae went bad was a real pita to get the antenae off as it was bonded to the dash with 5200, but heres a repair for them with out pulling it off.
Here is what I did:

Alright. Took it upon myself to try and fix the battery in the gps receiver/antennae. Unscrewed the white cap which has a small o-ring and teflon tape and took the unit apart by removing three small internal screws. And whaddyaknow, voila, there is a small panasonic battery in the bottom of the unit. Its held in by a couple of tack welds which were easily cut using an exacto knife. Went to Batteries Plus and bought a battery and they tack welded it back in for me, all for the grand total of $3.89. Thats right folks, three dollars and eighty-nine cents. Put the unit back together and it works like a charm. Just a bit of fyi for the do-it yourselfers!!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

What were the symptoms of "needing a battery". Mine won't recall, anymore, for no apparant reason.

as far as recall is concerned does it do anything when you trip it?

Not all gps anttnas or recievers are the same, did the same thing that scott did on a garmin 36 antenna (gaffrig analogue gps speedo), couldnt see any battery after i cut open the case, had to replace the antenna ,problem fixed.

Scott, Ironic you post this, now I will voice. Sent my GPS display to Livorsi 2 times with full explanition of how it was reacting when powered up, twice they sent it back tested no problem. I finally called them and verbatim of what I explained in the letter with the return I told them on the phone immediatly they said it was antenna battery and could be replaced for aproxx. $75.00. You have to wonder who is testing this equiptment can they not read. Good Post!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upon power up display will peg to WFO then return to 0 then jump to aprox. 9:00 and stay.

speedo is not finding the reciever-antenna,could be wiring ,conections,or antenna battery, thats what my analogue speedo did when the battery in the antenna failed.
