"C" head are claimed to be the best as far as factory head go. "J" head are a later emission type head. You can get your J heads flowing better for about the same price it would cost for the C's. I've got 2 455's, one with J and one with C. I haven't run either yet so I can't say from experience.

The "F" heads were on the 1970 Olds 442 W30. I thought these were the best flowing ones. Especially when coupled with the "W455" aluminum intake. Unfortunately, they are as rare as hen's teeth and very pricy if you can even find them.
You might call these guys.

They know Olds performance for cars. Don't know about marine work.
Just my 2 cents...that most likely isn't worth that.

Yes F heads are good! But rare. Same with D. It looks like you would do good with C, D,DA, some E, F, and some G. All of these have versions with big valves. C heads seem to be more available. J heads did not come with big valves.

Check this article out. It mentions the K heads towards the end.

If you check out the link I posted earlier, I think you will find that there are some good options for the 455. Nothing is too cheap though....but what performance parts are?

C's are good. We run them on a jetboat but all are good with the big valves and a lot of porting.
