Tach help

Hey guys, need a little help with my new tach. I just bought a new set of gauges for my boat. I have everything hooked up right I think but Iam not sure what to set the tach dial on. The old tach was set on 12 pole, but the new one does not have that. It's a teleflex sportsman. It has settings for cyl. and p but no 12 pole. My engine is an 89 Merc 150 XR4 V6. Does anybody know what the correct setting would be? I don't want to run it and blow something up.

I did'nt change the motor and the set was for a Merc, even the trim gauge works. It says it will work with a 12 pole but there is no setting for it. I hav4e it set on 6 cyl right now. :confused:

I have a Merc and if you check the instructions with the Teleflex gauge it will tell you to set the dial to half the number of poles. You have a 12 pole system therefore set the dial to the setting "6". You did it right! :thumbsup:

I believe it 12 pole or 6 pulse if that helps.

Thanks guys, I did't have the instructions. 6 was the right one, it works perfect.
