Although I am new to Hydrostreams I had my best results at even with the pad. The advice I got from the HS guru's was the Vector/Vikings were best at near the pad give or take 1/2" either way. Again depending on setback. The less the better in the Vikings case. I went from 6" last year to 4" this year.

I have tried my 8in and 4in jp on my vector and it is much better with the motor bolted directly to the transom in the highest hole. You will almost eliminate the midspeed porpoising problems that vectors are known for. The boat will feel more solid and handle better. Try it and you'll be selling your jackplate!

Im running a 6" set back and the shaft even with the pad. But Ive been told a few times too remove the jack plate and put it straight on the transom.. My boat porpuses real bad at the mid range speeds.... I cant just cruise on the pad. I either got to be in it and moving or trim down and then it feels like its trying to plow the nose in the water..

As much as I like the look and versitility of a jackplate, Still it's better in every way without the jp.

I just put a new fishin mota(stock 2.5 200) on it and I havent GPS'd yet.
I had a 2.4L 225 and I could get 96 on GPS with a 29p Mazco RE III.
That Mazco is a good cruising prop and top end prop but you lack on hole shot. I really like the hole shot on my 26 Chopper but sacrifice top end speed..... You just have to try a few props and find your happy medium...LOL If you need any help or got questions, just holler at me...

I have 4 bucket seats and 2-12G plastic fuel cells in the back. I moved the battery to the front under the bow and put 2 6x9 speaker boxes and speakers up front too... 6" manual jp and the prop is about 3/4 inch below the pad right now. Im doing some more testing and hopefully I can raise it up a little more. Hope that gives you an idea of how im set up.

Bolt it to the transom...
I did that and LOST 5 MPH....
I tried everything to get rid of the mid speed bounce.
I went from a 6" plate to 4" to 8" to right on the transom.
The 8" plate gave me the best speed, (94.1 GPS) with a warmed over 2.4 200, but took longer to stop bouncing after I crossed a boat wake.
Bolted to the transom still didn't stop the mid speed bounce.
The best way to stop the mid speed bounce, (40 to 55 on mine) is just not to travel at that speed, blast through it with a little pos. trim till you get above that speed.
Most of my runnin was 1/4 below the pad, but I tried all other heights too. (above and below the pad)

what size mid were you running 15 or 20. Would it chine walk real bad, or once you get past a certain speed does it straightn out....

I have very little porpoise. This is a 15' hull it does not take much hp to carry the boat. Also the further you set back the higher you need the jackplate set. The worse the handling becomes. It's a circle. The trade offs just don't support the jackplate imha.

I ran a 20" mid, and it never "drove itself"..it would get worse if you didn't "drive it"...the bounce got better with speed, once I learned the trim and gas it thing over 55 it was a dream.......as long as there wasn't a WAKE BOARD boat comin at me............That would usually give me a neck ache or back ache......and some scary AIR..........
MeanStream....I think it is for every inch back.......you go up 1/8 inch to keep it the same as it was before......

Yea.....I let my Cousin drive it, and he had trouble with chine walk, so I grabbed the wheel , got it straightened back out, "ok, you got it"? "yea, I got it".....as soon as I let go of the wheel, it was back all over the place............I did that two or three more times, and everytime he took the wheel back, it would chine walk like crazy............You definately have to "drive" em.

No two vectors act the same. My nephew has the same boat as I do and with the same power and set up they feel like completly different boats. Try your setup with different jackplates then bolt it to the transom and see what your boat likes best. there will be a compromise with speed with no jackplate but the difference in handling might be worth it.
