Hello I'm currently buying a 1986 taylor LP with a 1994 Johnson 200 venom. We cranked it over today and we had no spark.Where is the first place to look? The boat hasn't run for 7 years and it ran when it was put away.I'm new to johnsons and all the other o/b's I've owned never gave me problems so I never had to diag no start problems. Thanks fo rthe help in advance!!!

first thing I would check is the kill teather not being pulled

disconnect the red cannon plug at the engine, crank it by jumping the solenoid and check for spark. If you get spark, then you have either a bad ket switch or a bad kill switch. If still no spark, then there is a problem on the engine itself.
With the harness disconnected, you cannot stop the engine with the key, you will either have to choke it out or plug the connecter back together to stop it.
