View Full Version : Mercury Tech Merc 2.4 Chrome bore How to clean alum deposit
How is the best way to clean alum deposits from the chrome bore. Local Merc shop said "do not use a hone". I have 2 cyl. to clean up from scuffed pistons. Any help appreciated. Don

Welcome aboard !
I used muratic acid on a Q-tip to get the skuffs off.
I think I have heard of drano also? not sure.
Muriatic Acid is the "by the book" method of removing aluminum transfer from the cylinder wall.

Some toilet bowl cleaners have it in them.

I agree with Pyro. I've done it on 2 blocks with great success. Just make sure to wash the block afterwards and use extreme caution handling the muratic. VERY BAD STUFF.

Do it outside if at all possible.
It will turn everything steel in your shop orange if you leave it un-capped for long.
I know..........:nonod:
