Poppit valve and the diaphram has a hole in it. GB

why did water start shooting out of it?is it a sign of something more serious,or a new valve and diaphram and move on with it?

It shoots water out to let you know the diaphram is shot. Take it apart and see what you need, most of the time you can get by with new gaskets and diaphram. Just clean and check for other worn pieces while your in there. Go to mercurypartsexpress.com and find your part#'s needed. Then goto ProMarine and get your parts. GB

i don't mean to keep beating a dead horse but does the poppet valve got anything to do with the engine over heating or the engine being stopped up with mud or did it just wear out.my boy and i were fishing around a sand bar when some when some of those mahogany boats came by threw a bunch of wake on and right up on the grass bed we went.when i started up to get off,i think i pumped a bunch of mud in the motor.

You'll see when you pull it off if it was due to the mud suck. Most of the time the diaphram gets dried out and cracks. If you still have water squirtin out the pee hole in back of mota you shouldn't have to worry about overheat. GB

i went out today and i lost a little water pressure,i thought, and i looked back at the motor and saw water comming out the bottom on the side of the cowl.i opened the cowl up at the ramp and watched the water shoot out of the valve while it was running.no over heating or anything though.i just got a impeller kit in the mail.i'm wondering if i should rethink this thing and fix the poppet valve and replace the thermostats to.what do you think?

If the popet diaphram is leaking replace it. It can effect the water pressure and cause issues. Make sure you clean the ring where the diaphram sits or it will still leak.
