I'm looking to replace my old EOS film camera with a digi and am looking at the EOS 450D body only - I have a couple of Canon EF lenses that will fit (I hope!). Anybody got any experience of this camera? It's the 12 megapixel model and comes in at around 450 UK sterling - about $800? Good price and worth it?? Don't want to spend much more than that (or should I say can't afford to spend more!) Thanks.

I don't want to hijack your thread but I am looking at doing the exact same thing except here in Canada it is called the Rebel XSi. I am considering waiting for the XTi, but I don't need the video feature at all as I have a movie camera, but was curious if some of the enhancements will be worth it for a complete photography idiot like myself. (95% of the photos I take are in the auto mode, green box setting)

I love my XSi, have had mine since around august of last year, and am very pleased with the operation thus far. My next purchase is going to be the 100-400 L series.
The fact I had lenses from my old 35mm Canon that could be used made the deal even sweeter.

Got a buddy that has an XSI and its a great camera. I have a Canon 50D and the lower ISO pics on his XSI or (450D) are just as good as what my 50 produces. I would wait a while until the new 500Ti comes out and as well as Nikons new 5000. This will help push the prices down further on the 450D or (XSI). The newer Canon and Nikon offerings are going to be really close in price to the Nikon D90, once they hit the street. If you can stretch a few more dollars the Nikon D90 would be my choice. From what I have seen Nikons kit lenses and consumer lenses are better than Canons.

Thanks for your replies gents. I have noticed how many pro photographers prefer Nikon to Canon - maybe the lenses are better. But my restriction is purely financial and will dictate that I stick with Canon as I have a couple of lenses, which when combined with a X2 converter mean I have a focal range between I think 28mm and 600mm - a no brainer for me.
