this is on a 2.4 150.
When im under power I cannot even get the trim to raise the motor up, when i let off the throttle some the motor will go up fine but will leak right back down within a few seconds.
Is there anyway to get new rams? I looked everywere and all I see are pumps, my pump is fine.
I see new seal kits for the rams but have read they dont work???
any help would be great
thanks

Are the cyls actually leaking fluid or is the system just bleeding down?
Check the manual release valve.

What year? The older ones have the trim pump and motor as one unit.Sounds like the check valve is staying open.

im guessing its the older unit. Its a 86 or 87...
All the tilt/trim is mounted on the part that bolts to the transom.

Buy a new complete trim assembly and just bolt it up. About $800.00

The pump assy is the problem.Even though the trim motor is working the pump is faulty. This is the part number thru Pro Marine. There is two.One is a round pump the other is square P/n 6278(round) 551.00,T1085m(square) 426.00. Trim your motor up and see which one you have and put a post in the parts needed and see what everyone has.You should be able to get a good one for around 200.00
I have found that on almost all the three ram units I have had the leaked down the teeter totter valve on the pump is what leaks. I have the part number for these seals, they cost a couple of bucks. Let me know if you if you find you want to take it apart and fix it yourself.

I think trying to fix it myself would be my first shot.
I cant make it any worse if im gonna have to replace it anyways.
thanks for the part numbers. but if you have any pictures usa1 or any info on how to fix it that woudl be great.
thanks
Here is the deal on this. The part number is for a Force out board seal. They do not make replacements parts for the pump but this Force seal fits the teeter totter valve perfectly. Buy two of them. I don't have pictures. You just have to pull the trim motor and pump. The valve is on the bottom of it. Mercury part number 820719.

sweet thanks ordered
Of course it's possible its something else but for $8.00 and the track record of the valve I would try this first.
When you take the pump apart remove the teeter totter part of the valve first. Then split the pump body in half. A couple ball valves will fall out so pay attention to where they go. Inside the pump you will see where to put the new seals.

Did you check the manual release valve on the starboard side of the unit? I had one that was driving me insane come to find out that it just wasnt cranked in all the way. There are also O-rings on that thingy that can go bad.

I had mine apart 2 weeks ago and the teeter totter seals were mush. I cleaned all the goo out and replaced with o-rings which didn't work. I will try again with the 820719 seals. Thanks John!

Well I found out why the o-rings didn't work...I didn't pay enough attention to the adjustment on the teeter totter when I took it apart. I did put the square section rings in this time but I'm sure the o-rings would have worked. I had the teeter totter set too tight. This time I set the teeter totter to just clear the valves but I don't know how they should be set. By looking at the way they operate that seemed correct and appears to work right. I would feel better if someone that has a pump out would take a look at it and let me know how it's set.
Thanks,
Bob
Rubber O-rings definitely don't work. Been there done that. The will work for about two week then its leak down again.
