help, i just found that i have an almost 9 feet long x 1/4" deep hook in the bottom plating of an aluminum (riveted ) hull. it looks as though it may be from years of sitting on a roller trailer. this hook seems to span nearly the width of the boat.
i know i have to fix it. im just wondering if anyone else has run into this particular wall before and if so, how did you fix it?
this sure explains why my 22 ft cutty will only run 50 mph even with a big-bore v8 jonny

We juss went thru this on a aluminium air bote...GOOD LUCK!!....We tried everthang we could thank of, even used tha bucket on a backhoe(left it over nite with preasure on it)...all we manage to do iz bend tha crap outta tha bottom...We did git most of tha hook out, but it looks like crap...On guy said he haz used heet(rosebud) to make metal change shape...Well, he mussa fergot, kuz that damm rosebud screw'd up tha bottom worse than tha hammer'in, and backhoe.....Tha airbote iz now have'in a new bottom put on it!!:nonod:

O K, i actually got the hook out. i tried a couple of things that didnt work and then i made a hand-ful of pipe jacks. i mounted (with big rivets) angle aluminum to the side of the boat. then made shoes to sit on the ribs. we put a whole lot of pressure on the ribs . four ribs at a set. then when we counted turn the nuts any more we would shock-load it with a big hammer (just for the mass.not swinging hard at all ). it can actually be controlled pretty well. it warped the side of the hull a little bit in one area. but i can take care of that after i get the bottom finished.
