TECH QUESTION on jet boat

What is the difference between a 175hp merc outboard and a 175 hp merc jetboat motor? Block or exhaust plate? Any help would be good! Tom (1998 sugarsand jetboat)

If rated at the prop shaft, or in your case the jet pump, the powerhead is more than likely approx. 225 HP. This is due to the 30% loss associated with a jet pump. I am no expert but what I think this means is if you have two identical 225 HP powerheads sitting side by side the one with the pump on it will have a 175 decal on the cowling?

The crank is different also, the splines are different.... you cannot interchange outboard and sportjet powerheads assemblies.
