I'd appreciate any imput on reinforcing the transom on my viper to mount a 2000 XR6 150hp. Also, it a jackplate really needed with this setup?

Adding knees would do the job of reinforcement OK. Of course I have to ask if the old transom, floor, and core are OK. That's a very old boat.
I would think no set back with a V6 on a Viper.

I'm reading about knee supports as I type...The transom, and floor, and core are in great shape.
Thanks

I saw on another thread that you are thinking of a jackplate. A Viper is a very short boat and was never meant for V6 weight. I would put the motor on the transom. If the shaft is too long, then go short shaft.

Yeah, I was thinking about a jackplate, not to set the motor back, but to get it out of the water a little bit....as well as disperse some of the weight. You think I should find a 15" shaft for this motor?

CJ, I haven't seen a Viper rebuilt lately without a plate. I have a Bob's Convertible plate set at 2" setback and some are running as much as 5". You are going to want to play with engine height once you get it in the water....trust me. They are finicky little monsters with a V-6.....
