I just bought a vector (1982) with a 200 johnson (1977), the engine was just rebuilt with new pistons, the boat came with single steering and no hot foot boy was that a trip to drive, since I have installed a dual cable no feedback steering system and a hot foot, drives better but at about 65 it chine walks bad, the engine is in the 2nd hole from the top, approx 1 1/2 inch off transom, i am running a 24 raker prop,I tried the engine all the way up but I had no mid range performance sounded like the prop or the engine was missing or skipping, but the chine walking didnt start till abot 70 mph,the engine runs great I can turn it 6000 rpm, any advise to help in the chine area would be helpful, the raker prop, it feels like a car shifting into overdrive at times what is that?

Get it up and but watch your water pressure if you dont have a low water pick-up..

A bit more setback wouldn't hurt, 4" to 6", balance everything in the boat that you can. If it's still side steer, try to either put a passenger in that weighs approximately the same as you or some ballast to even things out. I would also transfer as much weight as possible to the rear, centered as much as practicable.

Here's the minimum........
1.) 6" manual Jackplate
2.) LWP & torquetab/ Bob's Cav. plate would get it up quick
3.) 28P big ear chopper
4.) centershaft even with pad +
5.) Make sure ya got no limiters on 'yer Johnny
6.) a lifeline vest :D
Oughtta squeeze 80+
Dont drive through the chine
Slight neg trim & go WOT
wait 'till it won't go any faster
bump the trim out 'till it breaks loose
hang on baby

I have a 24 with a cup but it came off a merc, will it work? dont have a pressure gauge, but it does have a brand new temp gauage and sender, what temp should it run, whats 2 hot?the 24 raker I am running now seems to shift, like it has a 2 speed trans, it happens at like midrange?

Get a water pressure gauge, this will let you know before it gets hot..You will still need the low water pickup..That raker probably wont work for that set up..Yes they will slip in the midrange when you accell. You will need to find a surfacing prop such as a chopper..

I got a 24 big ear chopper, but it came off a merc, will this fit my johnson lol?another question the 1977 200 johnson that I am running, does it have the vibration frequency thing that loosens the bolts or something to that nature, I read something but not sure, anyone know?

Shoot me an email when ya get a chance in case I forget to post a price in the AM. Stay away from 6300 rpms, go above or stay below it. That chopper should work if you drill out the splines a bit. You absolutely will need a LWP on that Vector to get the most out of it.

hey rick it says on the engine 200hp@5700 or 5750, can you handle the lwp also, dont want to blow it up, it problay has about 100 hours since overhaul, what rpm would be running the sh!# out of it, I would like for it to last, oil mixture?what ratio for durability

I didn't see anybody mention solid motor mounts. These are a must for running smoth and stable.

but if I were you, I would ship the thing off and let Bob's install it. About $300 and it's a done deal. You can have them do a high perf. torque tab while they're at it (I think that's about another $25), and I would highly recommend it. The Bob's cavitation plate goes for 32.00 + shipping. With the motor being that fresh, I wouldn't be afraid to spin it 7000. Use Pennzoil full synthetic (WalMart, about $20 a gallon) at 40/1. I would also consider the Bob's solid mounts, ($63.00- per set + shipping). Try to borrow some different choppers (26 to 28) or better still a 27 SRX. Action17 has one for sale you could probably try before you buy. You will love the SRX. With all these upgrades, you will find your boat much faster, and much more stable and controllable to boot.
