Hi,

It's been posted in here about our 1976 115 hp inline 6 with the blown #3 piston. We got many answers as to possible causes, but I guess it still bugs us that we don't REALLY know what we did to blow it. Would HATE to do it again!! :(

Well, we got it back together again with the correct low dome piston (Thanks Rick for getting that to us!). While priming the gas bulb, we discovered that the gas tank (standard red plastic 6 gallon) has a valve leak. We never noticed while running the boat before because we keep it under the rear jump seat.

My hubby is wondering is this could have possibly caused us any problems, like *starving* the motor for some fuel/lubrication?

Thanks!

Cheri

best fix all fuel leaks before we start calling you boom-boom boater. you need to make sure you fix them all remember any fuel leaking out can let air in. Any air in will starve the motor for fuel.

You answered what we were wondering about. Thanks for taking the time to do so. We have now thrown away that gas tank (don't want to take any chances) and replaced with a few new ones.

We have learned something more to keep an eye on now! :)
